NO MORE DONKEYS OR ELEPHANTS
                                NO MATTER WHAT!

VOTE INDEPENDENT
(OR WRITE IN A NAME ON A PAPER BALLOT)
It's hard to believe I've lived so long and know so little about the way our political and economic
systems actually work.  I am resolved that starting in November I will never again vote for another
Donkey or Elephant no matter what, and from now on if there isn't an independent candidate on the
“paper ballot” I will write in a name
even if that name has no chance of winning.  The point will be to
make a point – to make a statement and send a message – that it doesn't matter who wins or
loses any particular election (especially if the election is rigged both ways regardless of the
outcome) as much as it matters that we keep making progress toward what makes the most
sense for most of us and the common good.
Graft and corruption have gotten way too far out of
hand in America.  If enough voters switch to voting for independents and writing in names if no
independents are available - it will make a statement that corrupt members of the status quo won’t
be able to cover up – and we might be surprised how many of us there are compared to the relative
few of them...  What it will probably come down to, unfortunately, is how cheaply some of us can be
bought off
, or tricked into doing something against our own self interest (like believing in a “duopoly”
system where two powerful groups dominate everything, like the rich Elephants and the rich
Donkeys do).  Pretty clever how they did that and evolved over time into such a mega-duopoly right in
front of my face – in plain view of all of us the whole time – and lucky for them I was the only one so
duped and too dumb to notice.
If word gets out what these animals have done there’s no telling
what some people might do (besides vote independent or write in a name on a
paper ballot).

Meanwhile don't miss these important stories:

"The insanity of deep water oil wells," by William Saletan

Slate Magazine (Human Nature)

"The Business of America (Remains) Kleptocracy"
                              by William Astore

at TomDispatch.com
"What if...instead of looking at where our government might be headed, we took a closer look
at where we are -- at the power-brokers who run or influence our government, at those who
are profiting and prospering from it?  These are, after all, the “winners” in our American world
in terms of the power they wield and the wealth they acquire.  And shouldn't we be looking as
well at those Americans who are losing -- their jobs, their money, their homes, their
healthcare, their access to a better way of life -- and asking why?

"If we were to take an honest look at America’s blasted landscape of “losers” and the far
shinier, spiffier world of “winners,” we’d have to admit that it wasn't signs of onrushing
socialism or fascism that stood out, but of staggeringly self-aggrandizing greed and theft right
in the here and now.  We’d notice our public coffers being emptied to benefit major
corporations and financial institutions working in close alliance with, and passing on
remarkable sums of money to, the representatives of “the people.”  We’d see, in a word,
"kleptocracy" on a scale to dazzle.  We would suddenly see an almost magical disappearing
act being performed, largely without comment, right before our eyes."

"WE"
The Story of Stuff with Annie Leonard
Has been moved to Subjects - it's an important story and you shouldn't miss it
but I can't fit everything on the Front Page.  Compared to the current headline
it's "just another story," but a very important one (if we can get past our
    "Kleptomania")!
The Third Industrial Revolution
Post Carbon Based (beyond Fossil Fuel) Economics and Ideology in a World
Wide Society Connected Globally Managed Locally  (Can you dig it?)   (Whew!)
From Jeremy Rifkin in his new book, 'The Empathic Civilization: The Race to
Global Consciousness in a World in Crisis' (Tarcher/Penguin; January 2010).
We can do it!  Our next pledge of allegiance must be to the Biosphere!
The Mystery of Human Nature
Are we self-centered and materialistic (doomed mostly to go it alone in the world
against all odds on the strengths or weaknesses of our own merits) – or are we
socially oriented (who wish to associate with others for various reasons including
fellowship)?  Of course we're both (social and self-centered) but for the first time
in history we must think globally and move quickly to clean up our act.
The Economic Crisis (other than "jobs")
Terrence McNally at Alternet.org explains how Bill Greider (in his latest book
"Secrets of the Temple") argues that a more democratic money creation
system in America could have saved us from latest financial collapse...  While
Simon Johnson and James Kwak at Baseline Scenario (in their latest book
"Thirteen Bankers") propose that no financial institution should be allowed to
control or own more than 4 percent of US Gross domestic product (roughly $570
billion) with a lower limit on investment banks of 2 percent (roughly $285 billion).
These ceilings would affect only six banks: Bank of America, JPMorgan/Chase,
Citigroup, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley - which should be
enough to frighten us into action!
