Web Hosting "Control Panel" discovered (WOW!): Wednesday, June 7, 2006
First technical problem (Case # 3808095, below) Tuesday, June 20, 2006

"The hardest part of finding things is remembering where you put them."
I will strive to update this "technical" information as I learn it.

I am using: Yahoo Web Hosting "Starter"
$11.95/month
Which includes:
www.your-name.com
you@your-name.com
Matching email accounts -- 5
Matching website
sub-domains (whatever they are?) -- 5
Data transfer (bandwidth) -- 200GB (whatever that is or means?)
They claim it is an Ad-free site
Blogging -- is available but I haven't gotten into it yet

Disk space for storing files: 5GB
(Which is looking like it's going to be enough for awhile...)
You have to keep an eye on "Images," they accumulate,
they have to be deleted separately...
(All trial and error pages, pictures, etc are stored)
I haven't found out how to completely control this yet.
It looks like
Web Hosting Control Panel will give me plenty of warning.

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) for putting files on server
They seem to recommend some 3rd party stuff but I'm using theirs...
Remote loading of files on another web site is available (but I don't know why)?
Free Page Builder (Yahoo Site-Builder 2.2) -- which I'm using...
And I'm liking it better -- the price is right!
Scripting and database tools:
PHP, Perl, MySQL
Email storage
(per account) -- 2GB
Integration with Yahoo Mail in-box
POP and SMTP email access
Email
forwards
Vacation responders
Priority email

Yahoo Site-Builder 2.2
Crude at first, harking back to early days of Word Processing,
where you had to do a lot of things "manually,"
but it's been adequate and the price is right: Free!

I haven't looked into 3rd Party possibilities, yet,
All "composing" of pictures must be done outside of Site-Builder.

Page size related stuff:
I still like the idea of each page fitting onto an actual piece of paper
8-1/2" x 11 (with narrow margins all around)
I have settled on 687 x 882 with 1" left and .25" right margins.

My template for "everything" is "Save AS"

Most pictures work best as a Thumbnails
(since you can make the Thumbnail any size you want).

"Print Preview" shows how the page will look
so you don't waste paper...

Grid is almost no longer applicable...

Multiple pages of text load fast and seem to be OK...
But I prefer going pretty much one "Page" at a time...

Case # 3808095 (6-20-06)
Could not "Only publish modified files" -- it behaved like it was working, it went through
the motions, but it didn't actually upload (sometimes any sometimes a few but not all)
modified files.  The command to "Publish all files" still worked.
Stephanie told me I
would have to re-load the program (Site Builder 2.2.7) but after a day of preparation to
do that, and after checking it one more time, it magically seems to have cleared itself
up.  As of today (6-21-06) it is working fine again.

I also got an email back from
Dena about this subject who told me several things to
check and make sure they are "toggled" correctly, which they were.  That's when I
decided to test it again before reloading everything and it worked!
How can anyone explain that?
